Search for Matching Pieces

The typological features and surface characteristics of the fragments emerged during cleaning and documentation. This made possible to start the painstaking search for matching pieces. The features that helped the search include: the shape of the breaks; the profile of the edges; the thickness; surface irregularities; identification of the technique; traces of the original support; traces of pigments. The search benefited greatly from the study of the conservation conditions, especially the detection of surface alterations such as incrustations, evidence of burn, oxidation. All this evidence was fundamental for re-assembling the fragments and identifying the decorative typologies of the domus.
